briar (originally tristan) is the son of house reachwood, a bottom-tier vassal house of house tachonis. briar's father wouldn't allow him to go to the penteveral while he was still failing his public speaking classes, so thjazi helped pull some strings to get the books sent directly to briar so he could learn wizardry on his own. thjazi told briar he could come to him if he ever needed help.at the edge of their house's neighboring forest, briar's father attempted to have him killed in a manner similar to occtis. before his heart could be taken, an unknown force freed briar and confused his attackers so he could escape. not knowing who he could trust, briar went to thjazi only to find him executed when he arrived.which party briar ends up with can be dependent on the needs of the thread. if it's schemers, it's because he's deemed too inexperienced to be out in direct combat. if it's soldiers, it's because he's being pursued by his house and needs to get out of town. if it's seekers, it's because it's assumed that he can help solve the mystery of occtis' murder, seeing as they were both attacked in a similar manner.
